Astrobiology Summer Academy ASA2013
The Kinetic Parameter facility is a member of the UK Centre for Astrobiology (UKCA) and involved in a number or research projects on life in exteme conditions in UKCA collaborations. We are co-organising the UKCA Astrobiology Summer Academy, joint with NASA to begin in July 2013.
ASA2013 is bringing high school students from the Shetland Islands and across the UK to Edinburgh to study astrobiology. Investigating astronomy, geology, biology and other disciplines that make up astrobiology, the students will take part in group projects, lectures and fieldwork.
The purpose of the Academy is to give high school students access to cutting edge research and bring them into contact with researchers from space agencies around the world, whilst at the same time helping them to make choices about future subjects at high school. After its summer 2013 pilot scheme it is hoped that the Academy will go national. The Academy is working with the National Space Centre and the National Space Academy to realise its plans.
The astrobiology academy is generously supported by the UK Space Agency and the Royal Astronomical Society.
